Costa Adeje

The sunny south coast with sandy beaches, promenades and good infrastructure.

A practical base for families and relaxing holidays.

What to expect

Costa Adeje in the south-west is the island's best-developed tourist coast: wide beaches such as Playa del Duque, Fañabé and Torviscas, long promenades, hotels, restaurants and leisure options. The old fishing village of La Caleta and the old town of Adeje with its church offer a quieter, more authentic counterpoint. Above lies the Barranco del Infierno gorge.

Weather and best time

The sun shines most often here; the south is dry and mild all year. In summer it can get hot, and occasionally calima brings dust from the Sahara. In winter it is pleasantly warm for swimming and walking; the low season is quieter.

Getting there and practical

From Tenerife South airport you reach Costa Adeje in about 20 to 30 minutes by motorway, and there are buses and taxis. Parking right at the beach is scarce, and car parks and parking on the edge are easier. For walks in the Barranco del Infierno registration is required and visitor numbers are limited.

Tips and notes

Costa Adeje suits families, couples and anyone looking for a beach holiday with good infrastructure. Trips are possible from here to Teide, to Masca or by ferry to La Gomera. Watch the beach flags, use sun protection and allow time for traffic in high season.
